many drivers in the trucking industry seem to think that it is a good idea to be an owner operator well its a good thing dont get me wrong but i think if you are planning on buying a truck you may need a reality check and after the reality check if you are still bent on the idea then go for it
HOLD ON HERE IS THE REALITY CHECK
i will tell you about my experience because i think it is very typical
on dec 12 -05 i purchased a tractor from an agency in eagan mn
the name is lone mtn leasing i will give them a plug because they earned it
it had 550k on the chasis in fairly good shape it is a fairly good truck on fuel and its pretty consistent IMPORTANT!!!! the key to sucsess in trucking is to be consistant . bruce williams said the hardest money he ever made was his first million dollars the easy money was the second million.
why ? the hardest thing to do is find the formula that works for you the easy money is just repeat the prosess!
the first month with my new agent from baker mt. i made a gross revenue of 16k pretty good right ? after all thats 190 a year
well yes but in april and may i sank $10,600 into maintinence
thats not so good right .
also when driving a company truck you feel free to drive as fast as you want right ? you dont buy the fuel . and there is nothing wrong with that but in one month of buying my own fuel my fuel cost alone was $5175.32 guess what i drive 65 or less most of the time and 55 as much as i can
dont forget the whole time my name is on the lins for a $37k truck and a $17k trailer
in closing my advice is this there has never been a better time to be an owner op but there is alot of risk the money is great but sometimes you may go a month or 2 with no check can your family afford that ? there is alot of instability in the trucking buisness be ready to ride the waves and GOOD LUCK
REMEMBER THERE IS ONLY ONE WAY TO FINANTIAL PEACE AND THATS TO WALK DAILY WITH THE PRINCE OF PEACE CHRIST JUSUS |

If we look back on the business you have to love it to be there.I am blogging all truckers ,that wants to listen. We are been pawns in the gas and diesel industry. The country, the opec 12 ,the stock market are making millions why we starve. I made 100k last tear and put 50% in the tank. This year I will put 75% in the tank and maybe we will be working as owners for free.I believe the only way we can get the change is to strike. We need to stay off the road for 1 day all of us and we will bring the country to their knees. We need to force this administration open up drilling and do it now. They are controlling us by their scare tactics over seas

`only a FOOL would strike. why, to achieve what end? what would define success? if you are an owner operator, is it because you aren't making money? ok then what are your fixed costs? why don't you think about cutting them,
how much are you spending on tires and maintaining that truck? find a way to cut your cost there, is it fuel prices? THEN DRIVE SLOWER!!!! there is plenty of money to be made in this business, go make some and quit whining!
