I was excited to mount my new CB Radio in the truck before a road trip, but quickly became discouraged after asking for a radio check and getting the same old noise that my old radio made. "Shut Up Stupid" was the response. What the heck, I thought the new radio would fix the annoying words, noise and feedback. So, as the miles rolled by, I called on CB manufactures to see if they were installing component's that seem to be infected with some sort of virus. They assured me that was not the case. My next attempt was to NASA to see if maybe unrevealed alien's had been captured and they were taking my radio hostage and using the radio waves to reap havoc. With a giggle, NASA just ---- up on me probably thinking I was one of the Alien's I was inquiring about. Obnoxious voices seemed to follow me unrelentlessly. Shut up Stupid, I Don't Have My Panties On, Wheres The Beef (lot lizard lingo i guess) just kept repeating over and over thou State and State.
As I travel, I will continue to seek the answer to this dilemma that haunts my radio and probably yours. Theres got to be a solution to this madness besides the OFF button don't you think?

`Yeah I can't stand my CB anymore. It alright if you're driving midnights, people tend to be a lot nicer, but other then that it only serves a couple purposes, Brake check updates and Ohio Bear checks

`I remember many years ago my father belonged to a CB Club (which I don't know if those such clubs exist anymore) and thats where new friends could be found, topics of GOOD interest were shared. I see many truckers with children in the trucks and find myself concerned about the education they are getting from the toxic talk on the CB. Hopefully the knob is in the off mode. Times are changing but I refuse to sell off my own integrity for demoralizing so called chit chat that seems to roll through the same towns I do..

`I Think where you are, makes a big difference. I mean, I usually leave my CB on when out on the open road. You never know what might be ahead and you can usually count on somebody to say something about potential hazards or bears. Its when you're sitting at the truck stop, and some are much worse than others, that you have to worry about the non stop, Shut Up Stupids, and the inevitable pantyless people. But if you keep your radio off all the time, There is very little chance of actually chatting with anybody cool. Right?

`That's why I run at night, when all the jackasses are asleep. Then, I can grab a nap during morning rush hour, do my deal until afternoon rush hour, and truck all night again with the rest of my old-school brothers who know what I'm talkin' about. No waiting on a shower, you don't get your hood torn off by some moron in the middle of the night, and due to budget cuts, you can count on what scales are open and closed anymore! Whoop-whoop!!! Air is cooler, better fuel economy even with a 379, less traffic so less brake wear, dayshift cops are asleep so you can truck up all night... And, those booger eating morons that hold a mirror in front of them when they talk on the radio are nowhere to be found!

`You know you all are right turn off the C.B. no one needs to know whats going on, on the road out here who cares about the road being shut down in the middle of the curve or that icy bridge or that oversize load that you are passing that is screaming at you he needs room because there is something on the shoulder of the road or the Driver in the pickel park haveing a Heart attack asking for someone to call 911. Yes I understand there are some real jerks out there and I get tired of hearing them as well but I also get tired of passing a road construction sign that said right lane closed 2 miles ahead and a whole bunch of truckers rushing up to the traffic jam and then getting on the radio and asking why we are stoped or worse yet the ones that can't read can I jump in front of you. You are right about the Idiots out here on the Radio but the Radio can save your life and others as well {and I know many times it would have} as well as alot of problems. What do I know about any of this thou. I'm just a dumb ol truck driver that started draging my Dad's 9 axel across country when I was able to reach the peddals in the summer.

`I think the "I ain't got no pantys" thing is a franchise of somesort. I don't know how it works, but that is what I suspect. Actually, maybe it is a new religious cult.

I have been out here on the road for over 2 decades. I have watched the decline in intelligent conversations and information on the cb decline rapidly. There have always been idiots on the cb, I will grant you that. But there is an abundance of them at a number so high, that it is hard to get a word in to even start anything that might be interesting. There is also another pack that is rising just as fast, the idiots they are putting behind the wheels of these trucks. Just to be fair I am not saying all new drivers are idiots, there are even some seasoned drivers that are idiots as well. But there are no qualifications to be a CB operator, no tests or requirments. Dare I even say, no restrictions either. So now you have these ppl, with no respect for others(most have none for themselfs either),with a somewhat anonamous communication device that several ppl can recieve there wisdom, or lack there of, in a given area. Unfortunatly I dont see a light at the end of the tunnel. But I do run another channel other then 19. There is a smaller group that runs 12. I hope it catches on, and that the ones that have the comments that we are discussing stay on 19.

the whole "I don't got no panties on" thing, was out of a movie. I don't remember which one it was, but yeah, that's where the morons get it from.

`It sounds so cliche' but those days are gone. Most people now have cell phones and have those either plastered to their ear or run around looking like Mr. Spock from Star Trek with those damn wireless headsets on their ears 24/7. I even think some of those people sleep with the things on... The CB used to be a tool that one could get any kind of valuable info on. I remember when I started out in the 80s I would ask for simple directions and have about 20-30 old hands get on there and give me about 40 different ways to get into a place and ALL worked. Now all you have is the azzholes yelling out for lot lizards and playing rambo. This industry has really taken a turn for the worst but it's a living. Mostly I think that the cell phone has really taken over as the #1 form of communication.

`i suppose that i will offend everyone here by stating the obvious. shops, truckwashes, hookers, drivers looking to sell.... chains, coolers, and whatever else. are normal traffic on a c.b. radio. they always have been and always will be. the reason that otherwise normal people go nuts behind the mic. is that it is the only outlet left for drivers to take out their frustration, and so when someone that is selling something or providing a service gets on the radio, it seems as though it is like someone gives the @ssh*les a green light to be stupid

`Regarding the CB Radio... I'm firmly convinced that 25% of the Drivers do 75% of the talking. Don't you just love it when two or more Drivers with "big radios" carry on a conversation that no one gives a rats a*s about (except them) for miles and miles and miles? A lot of the stuff you hear on the CB is useful, informative, entertaining and just plain funny- but a lot of it is hateful, mean spirited and intolerant.

Personally, I NEVER have the CB Radio on when I'm parked at a truck stop, and I do only a moderate amount of listening to it while I'm driving. Days (sometimes weeks) go by without me keying the mike and saying a word. Don't get me wrong, I like to talk to my fellow Truckers, but I prefer to do so face to face- at shippers, receivers, company facilities, truck stops- wherever a good conversation pops up.

As a Gay Trucker, I will say two things: (1) I find the "I ain't got no panties on" thing as annoying as the rest of you. Thank goodness that fad has waned! (2) I don't cruise on the CB Radio. I'm not one of those guys that you hear clicking the mike and saying "BJ on Channel __" . That is NOT my thing!
10-4, Good Buddy ? LOL :-D
