How ya doing men? I use Sprint also. I'm sitting in a truck stop now in Ky and getting 4.22 mbps using the Merlin S720 card. Out in nowhere land I have seen it fall to 64 kbps while sharing other towers. I have yet to park and open my laptop that I couldn't get online!

Gota put my vote in for alltel, no problems, loaded up running as good as your sprint. Cost is about $50. per month using their kyocera hardware.
Runs great while "guiding and gliding" down the road. Downloaded a lots of movies to enjoy during my 10. I'm out.

I've been looking at all of them, they all seem to have there faults.
I have also been considering getting satalite for the truck, Dish Network partners with a company that has a broadband wireless modem that is suppose to work anywhere there is a tower. Down side is tht you have to have 110 power for it, up side if you bundle it together you get a 20 dollar discount on tv service.
If you are going to stick with the cards, Wilson has adapters for Wifi card to help bust the signals uses the same Wilson antena

`I use verizon. good service areas and am looking forward to the roll out of 4G this week but since they are not upgrading all their towers I'm not expecting that great 4G speed in rural areas

I have AT&T's 3G Laptop Connect (mobile broadband) for my notebook computer. The service is fast and reliable when I get online in an AT&T 3G area, which occurs more often than not. (Most of the Shippers and Receivers I go to tend to be in, or near, medium to large cities. Also, I tend to shut down for my 10 hour breaks at truck stops in, or near, medium to large metro areas.)
I would rate AT&T's data service as just "acceptable" when I use it in more rural areas (where the only data service available is the older, slower AT&T EDGE network). Forget watching online videos or downloading large files while using EDGE, but the speed is usually adequate for email and viewing web pages.
My AT&T Laptop Connect plan cost me $60.00 per month and allows me to use up to 5 gigabytes of data. Usually, by the end of my billing cycle I am right on the edge of exceeding my allowed 5 GB- then it cost me an additional ten cents per megabyte. (There are 1,024 megabytes in a gigabyte, so going over can get expensive in a hurry !)
DOES ANYONE OUT THERE HAVE ANY EXPERIENCE WITH THE UNLIMITED 3G DATA PLAN ($40.00 PER MONTH) NOW BEING OFFERED BY VIRGIN MOBILE ? Here is a link to it: (removed)
Yes, that's $40.00 per month for unlimited data!!! There is no contract required. You pay month to month.. To start using the service, you have to purchase a 3G USB modem, which cost $79.99- that's all. My understanding is that the Virgin Mobile 3G network is actually the US Sprint 3G network. Hmmmm. I haven't been able to meet one Trucker who uses Virgin Mobile 3G, or who has ever used it. If I could get some good comments on it from Truckers (not tech bloggers who are stuck in the same city everyday) I would switch to it in a heartbeat ! I have no problem paying AT&T $15.00 per month for my Android Smartphone data plan. (I have a Samsung Captivate.) But I think paying $60.00 per month for 5 GB of data for my laptop is a rip off !

`Hey Chubs..I use the data plan through ATT with my HTC phone. Its 45 a month for 2gb, anything over is 10 a gb. In 3g which is alot most of the time, is better then most Im sure. I did have an ATT mobile BroadBand card..It worked fine, just got hot alot. I know someone who has used the virgin mobile. Said had more problems then what it was worth..But take that with a grain of salt for sure. Verizon seems to have the better pre paid device, ATT uses LG, for prepaid..I really dont care what people say about their devices..Theres no way a rolling device can handle downloadable data that fast doing 60+..Unless your just seeing text..When stopped yes..Its possible..not T1 possible, but lighting quick depending on what your veiwing..If you go with pre paid..I think Verizon has the better device..If you have a contracted phone, then contact them first and see what they have to offer..ATT has other devices, besides the pre paid one..Anyways, Ive rambled enough..Stay Safe!

Hey, thanks for giving me some feedback regarding Virgin Mobile. The thing that makes me hesitant to give their Unlimited 3G Data Plan a try is that it uses Sprint's 3G network. I tried US Sprint's mobile internet service years ago (before 3G networks existed). Sprint's service and coverage was HORRIBLE back then ! When I could get online, it was slow, slow, s-l-o-w. So I gave up on it and began using the new Wi-Fi service that Flying J had just began offering.
Fast-forward to the present: I have no experience with the Sprint/Virgin Mobile 3G network. I'm hoping to get some Trucker feedback on it's speed, coverage and what I can expect when I'm not in a Sprint 3G area. I might go ahead and give it a try... if I get pissed off enough at AT&T and their 10 cents per megabyte overage charge. The 5 gigabytes per month of data that AT&T allows me is a lot of data. I usually don't go over, even though I use my AT&T Service on the road and at home. I watch a lot of online videos- which really eats up my data allowance. Also, I am interested in signing up for data intensive services, like NetFlix. I can see a day, sooner than later, when an unlimited 3G (or soon 4G) data plan will be the only plan that makes sense for me.
I use a Sierra Wireless Mercury Connect USB Modem with my AT&T service. It looks like a little flash thumb drive. It never gets hot or gives me any trouble. I have never tried to use my laptop while my truck is in motion. I imagine that signal quality (download/upload speeds) would be all over the place in that situation.
