I have to tell you I am an avid Wi-Fi user! I recommend it whole heartedly.. I am using it now ! lol I find that most days, or nights, i can find a place to stop where i have good signal, and am able to h--k up .. It is truly my best friend on the road! The networks are growing, for example flying-j now offers 300 hot spots... and there are other networks that you can connect to also. I would be happy to give you more info on this topic if you are interested...

...yeah but most pc's only put in a 802.11b card.

Thats ancient.

I just bought a new Gateway cheapo and it had a 802.11g in it.

I think 802.11n is out, or maybe even newer.

_____

Concerning Flying-J: I am impressed with the strength of thier signal. It just sux relying on having to be in that parking lot, or some rest spot parking lot, etc.

Not only that, but you are very very very less secure on a line like that.

______

Myself has a Sierra Wireless 860 Card That picks up cellphone data and wifi as well. I pay $60/month through Cingular for unlimited use. Its great. I did the Flying-J thing for a month while waiting for my card in the mail, and I gotta say....I like the freedom of the card. I was in the desert the other day surfing the net.

Plus, you could always pick up the Wilson amp and throw your signal out there 60 miles more and then, crap, your always on, and strong too!

WIFI is awsome and even though b technology is a bit old most wifi access points use a mixed network, meaning that one can use both, b or g technology to connect. It is very fast since most of the WIFI areas use either DSL or cable to connect their networks. If anyone travel to Pennsylvania on Route 78 they are advertising a hotspot to be installed next week on exit 242 Stuckey's truckstop.

WIFI is awesome, am on Flying-J and T/A for now. Have a newer Dell Laptop with the "Express Slot" which uses a different network card. Verizon has new card available but Cingulars is still in the works.
