A buddy {Friend} that is asked me to teach him how to Drive and to help him get his CDL and so I agreed. I am leased to a company that doesn't do, or allow this type of thing, but what kind of friend would I be if I didn't besides it wouldn't be the first time I got into trouble with someone. Besides if it got to bad I would pull my leases and go else where, Or pull my Dads Authorty out of sleep. But that is besides the point I took my friend out for three months to teach him {and it wasn't that it took that long for him to learn it was that I wanted to make sure that when he got with his trainer at his company he could drive better than the trainer and yes I figure if you can run up and down the road on average of 115000# and 10 to 15 feet wide for a couple of months without running someone over or hitting something with the load you are going to have a big jump on 70% of the van and reefer drivers out here that. He is going to go to work with} how to drive and he is a pretty good driver, if I do say so. He has called God only knows how many companies to try to get a job as a trainie of course no experience and the only company out here that will take him I am ashamed to say is Swift, All the rest say 6 months or CDL traing school where all they teach you is scam your CDL why is that? someone please tell me it makes no sense to me at all. If I was going to hire someone to put in one of my trucks and I had the choice between to student, that I already know that I am going to have to train for the next four to six weeks, and the choice is someone who managed to go out and accomplish getting his CDL with out haveing to go to a school for it, or someone who did I think I would atleast give them both a chance to get in the truck and show me who is the better driver. Years back there was no schools and most of those drivers are real good drivers when you start doing compareison as to what generation of drivers that has the most accidents. Ok I drug it out along way's and I am sorry for that but waching this Industry change over the years has really crawled under my skin.

`My husband and I own our own truck and are leased onto a company that doesn't allow trainees. I drive on a permit. My husband trains me, no school required. I will go get my CDL with our truck at the DMV. The company we are leased to will not hire drivers with no school unless they have 2 yrs on the road, because the insurance company won't let them. With them it is a don't ask don't tell for the two years I am driving. Unless I wreck the truck major, nobody cares. The only way to be a truck driver and not go to school is to own your truck, have your own authority or your own insurance to cover your ass, and have a good old boy teach you to drive it. Don't let the money or credit thing stop you from owning a truck, there are companies that will finance you easy, just don't give up if it is what you LOVE!

`Some small company or driver out there will take you under the wing and train you, let you get that 2 yrs in. It is just an insurance problem. As long as you go take the written test, get that permit, know someone with a truck that will let you use it to take the driving test to get that CDL, your most of the way there. There are lots of O/o out there looking for drivers, that have good insurance, or will give you a whirl because your neat and will keep the truck in good condition, and your not a drug head or an alcoholic. I still recommend getting your truck though.
